Ocean Books

Story time is always one of my favorite parts of the day! Here are a few of the ocean-themed books I found for my students.

The ocean can be a noisy place, and sometimes Octopus just wants to be alone. So she looks for a quiet place to relax... but she keeps coming across more sea creatures!

I love all of the versions of the classic "Over In The Meadow" song. This one features ocean creatures, and is also a counting book!

This is a cute story about a seahorse who journeys through the ocean. On each page, students have to use their visual discrimination skills to find the seahorse hidden in the scene.

If you have read "Rumble In The Jungle," you'll like this ocean-themed version! This is a collection of poems about ocean creatures.

Sarah's grandfather gives her a seashell and promises her that she can listen to the ocean through it. When I read this story, I bring a conch shell (I got it at a craft store) and let them all take turns listening to it. I also like to ask the kids to take a close look at the pictures and talk about the setting. I ask them what they see in the pictures, and ask, "Would you see that in your neighborhood?" It helps them to understand that the story takes place far away from where they live.
