I love "thematic units," or groups of activities that are based around a theme. When I was a nanny, I planned weekly themes for the children I cared for, and many of our projects and activities followed our themes. This actually made it easier to find and think of activity ideas, because instead of racking my brain for random ideas, I had a specific starting point. 

 

Teachers, child care workers, parents, and others who spend time with kids can also plan themes. It may be a little more difficult for busy parents to try to create themes each and every week. But what about a special theme weekend once a month? Or a theme day in the middle of spring break, as a boredom buster?
